My Favorite Deacon and Me
Thank you for visiting my humble little piece of blog real estate. It is my intention to provide a place for discussing the Catholic faith.
My husband was ordained in 2006 We have been married since 1973.s, but being a lay person married to a member of the clergy is a whole new learning experience. It is quite an adventure.
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and Marriage preparation are my main ministries in the Church. RCIA is the process that adults who are considering becoming Catholic enter into. This blog is an extension of those ministries.
I hope that this blog will be a safe place for non Catholics, Catholics, atheists, agnostics and anyone with honest questions or opinions. Comments are welcome as long as they are respectful and charitable.
Please be aware that I try to always “think with the mind of the Church”. I am simply Catholic.

Please check out mine, it is a bit differant, a Catholic, spiritual, recovery thought based blog. It is low key on theology just because my gift is perhaps reaching those agnostic types that need baby steps in belief. Good morning Susan!
My husband has sent me the link to your blog & I have subscribed. I too keep a blog of my journey but so far I really haven’t had much to contribute. Scott has applied to the diaconate program & we are to undergo the psychological testing next month. His acceptance into the program is conditional to both of us “passing the test”.
I have to admit that I sort of gritted my teeth when I found your blog. Here I am trying to “wean” myself from reading blogs, “Facebooking” & spending way to much time with a keyboard under my fingers instead of a good book or meditating with my bible… then I find you, and now I’ll have to stick around a bit more!
I love the way you write… your story about your dimming halo really made me smile!

Susan, my husband has now been in the program since October of last year… one week-end class a month for the next 4 years or so. It’s a long journey but a very beautiful & enriching one.
I get your posts in my email & have been keeping up with you for a while… I even emailed you a while back because you hadn’t posted in so long that I was “worried” about you!

Susan, I found your site by accident and was delighted. My husband is in formation for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati- he (we) are at the half way mark with ordination in 2013. How supportive to have this site. I also found Christine’s site and had a few chuckles at what she and her candidate are experiencing now. Keep us in your prayers as we will for you. Hello. I found your blog by accident, but I guess with God there are only “happy accidents”. My husband is in the final phase of formation. We petitioned our bishop for ordination on Aug. 9th. God willing with the bishop’s approval, my husband will be ordained November 10, 2012. Its been a very long 5years. Lots of sacrifices but well worth it. My husband and I are not new to ministry. We started as teenagers being in youth group and than becoming leaders. We continued after being married. Years later a parish hired us both for youth ministry. Then our pastor saw my gifts elsewhere and placed me in charge of Religious Ed, RCIA, quinceaneras and Generations of Faith. I did this for 8 years. I stepped down to allow my husband the time he needed to study for the diaconate. I have inquired about becoming a NFP instructor and hope to be certified soon. We will be married 21 years this October. Thank you for allowing me to share a little of our journey.

Hi,
I’m Karen 35 years old from Honduras, I’m Catholic and I’m currently dating a great man that has told me his desire to become a deacon if grants him the blessing to do so.
We haven’t talked about marriage as a definite thing yet because we just have 2 months dating but I definitely see him as the kind of man I want as head of my future family but, I really don’t know what being a deacon’s wife entails and I’d love learn about it.

My name is Jeanette. My husband is in the Inquiry s state for the diaconate formation. I don’t have any hesitation or doubts in supporting him. He is a very spiritual man and a devout Catholic. My worries is about myself, I really don’t know what to ask. All I know is that I believe my husband is called to serve. We don’t know if this is really the journey for him/ us. As the spirit leads this we believe. Any inputs for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My husband was ordained last June – it was a long process but he’s become a very dedicated and devout Deacon. I support him 100% but I often feel like everything about the church comes before me and any family obligation. It’s a difficult position – who am I to stand between my husband & God?
Be sure to both pray about this direction…

You mentioned you voted for neither side. I was an independent but voted republican in the last election on the prolife platform. Being from Massachusetts is like having a black cloud over our head. People edge away from us when they find out where we live.
I read your interesting article in the DD and hope you write more in that venue. Deacon Kevin and I have been married since 1972; he was ordained in 2011. I find being a deacon’s wife a very unique journey, not talked about, not known to many. My church friends are fiercely loyal, my old friends not too much because my spare time away from the church is, I feel, best kept for family. Life revolves around the Eucharist and Mass – how honored we have been to be called, he and I.
