New iPhone App to Help in Confession

I wants it, I needs it. Oh dear. I like tech toys way to much. But Catholic News Service reports that  iPhone has a cool app–that is Church approved–to help.

The iTunes site has this description:

Designed to be used in the confessional, this app is the perfect aid for every penitent. With a personalized examination of conscience for each user, password protected profiles, and a step-by-step guide to the sacrament, this app invites Catholics to prayerfully prepare for and participate in the Rite of Penance. Individuals who have been away from the sacrament for some time will find Confession: A Roman Catholic App to be a useful and inviting tool.

The text of this app was developed in collaboration with Rev. Thomas G. Weinandy, OFM, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Rev. Dan Scheidt, pastor of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. The app received an imprimatur from Bishop Kevin C. Rhodes of the Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend. It is the first known imprimatur to be given for an iPhone/iPad app.”

Hi! I’m one of the guys who designed the app! I think you will enjoy the app just fine, but let your husband know we don’t have Deacon as a selection in our vocations, only religious and priest (!!! My parish Deacon gave me a pretty hard time about it !!!) BUT we are definitely looking at adding it in a later update. If you try it out, let us know what you think! Thanks!

    Hi Patrick,
Well unfortunately I don’t have an iPhone. Yet. But it looks like it is a fine app. Perhaps when it is time to get a new cell phone, I will be able to trade up to an iPhone.

Thank you for using your considerable knowledge and skills–except for leaving out deacons :- to help make confession easier. I will let our RCIA class know about it. It might help make their first confession a bit less intimidating.

There are some great Catholic apps for the droid, too. I use a daily readings app that has the readings, reflections, liturgy of the hours, stations of the cross and a rosary. I really like the rosary part of the app. There are also some good litany and prayer apps for the droid.

It’s so easy to be distracted by smart phone technology. It’s great to know that it can also help you focus on your faith.

    Susan,
Thanks for letting me know about the droid apps. I will tell the RCIA class about those as well.

Dan Scheidt is a GREAT priest (remember, Fort Wayne-South Bend is my home diocese). How exciting that he helped with this!!
