Good question.
R. Albert Mohler Jr. has an article in the Baptist Press. It is an excellent analysis of how acceptance of so-called same sex came to be so wide spread.
“Why does same-sex “marriage” make sense to so many people? The momentum toward the full legalization of same-sex “marriage” seems to intensify with every passing month — or even faster. The moral divide in this nation is now seen most clearly in the distance between those for whom marriage is exclusively heterosexual and thus a settled issue and, on the other hand, those who honestly see the legalization of same-sex “marriage” as a moral mandate required by justice.
Given the venerable status of marriage and its universally established heterosexual character — at least until very recently — the burden of argument falls on the need to explain how such a movement for a moral revolution gained credibility, cultural mass and momentum. How did this happen?
A culture does not consist only of ideas and ideologies, but no culture exists without them. Given the complexity of any culture, a comprehensive map of these ideas, moral intuitions and philosophies is impossible to create. Nevertheless, some patterns are clear enough. We can trace the acceptance of same-sex “marriage” to at least three major ideas that have been shaping the modern mind for some time — and are held to some extent by both social liberals and conservatives. It is going to get very ugly when the people embracing progressive liberation history and individualism clash with the people who embrace radical Islam. What will happen when Islamic leaders attack not only the Christians in America, but the people who are outspoken activists advocating same sex attraction, euthanasia, and abortion? There is a very marked line of denial and ignorance that the large population outside of the USA is not progressive. And they think that we are harsh!

LeAnn,
I really don’t understand why radical Islam has been given a complete pass. At least I haven’t heard any of the enlightened ones hurl “you are anti-women, anti gay, anti progress, at Islam. Ever since 9 11 they have been given a complete pass.

Yes, and we have an Islamic culture here in Des Moines from the African immigrant population that treats women poorly. And they do get a free pass from the press. But of course, as long as Reka Basu gets always gets the space above the fold, there will be nothing negative in our newspaper about the Islamic culture that goes against pro-choice feminist activists or the same sex marriage activists.

People are pro gay marriage because A. People are born gay and it is not their choice. and B. Because it’s discrimination to tell people they can’t marry. Marriage cannot be a right only for those who claim to own that right. Just because it’s a tradition doesn’t make it right.

Sheri,
Why is it discrimination all of a sudden? Did you even read the article? How did the right to marriage suddenly include same sex couples? It is a very recent development. This so called right appeared from left field without any reasoned argument.
God bless,
Susan
